Timothy Shields (UBS)'s profile

Help Children Read as a Volunteer with WITS

A certified public accountant (CPA) and graduate of the Stanford MBA program, Tim (Timothy) Shields worked with companies such as JP Morgan, Deloitte Consulting, Merrill Lynch, and Prudential Insurance before accepting his current position as program manager at UBS. Through UBS, Tim Shields contributes to charitable organizations such as Working in the Schools (WITS).

Dedicated to serving elementary students in the Chicago Public Schools, WITS empowers children to connect with their studies in a deeper way with the help of literacy mentors. As the largest volunteer corps pursuing this mission, WITS builds relationships through the efforts of its volunteers. These relationships in turn strengthen the local community.

A variety of opportunities exist for those interested in becoming WITS volunteers. Those who are available during school hours can participate in the kindergarten programs or serve as a classroom reading tutor. Alternately, those with only weekend availability can work with WITS on the Weekend, a program that provides reading assistance to students on Saturdays throughout the school year. Lastly, during the summer, volunteers with the Early Childhood Summer Program read with children for two hours every week at summer school.
